Nhambu‘s Safari Chic!

The best fashion tips I have, I learned from sorting through hand-me-downs and donated boxes of clothes at the orphanage where I grew up in Tanzania. The Precious Blood Sisters who raised me, drilled into me, that Color Coordination had nothing to do with fashion! Fashion was wearing what you had for what your body needed. Possession, Location, Occasion and Weather were the only 'Fashion Police!" Hence my Paris Runway Safari Chic outfit! : )

Here I am dressed to the T, on an early morning game drive in Tarangire National Park.

The scarf was to keep the dust from my hair; the glasses were to keep the wind, the sun and the insects from my eyes; the jacket was to keep me warm from the chill before daybreak, and to protect me with another layer of fabric to prevent the fearless tse-tse flies who often get to your flesh through your clothes; the hat was to wear on top of the scarf when the sun came out; the skirt was because we were driving to church 2 hours away for an African Mass all in Swahili -- and no one (except unknowing or uncaring tourists) would go to church in slacks or shorts. The fun multicolored suitcase was because we were going on another Safari adventure in the Usambara Mountains of my youth, and I do not own a plain, or dull one-colored suitcase; the sandals were the good, sturdy and steady Mephistos that protect your feet from the often rough and uneven terrain and stay on as you maneuver the narrow, weed-covered paths of the little villages we visited. Voila! Nhambu's Safari Chic!

My life situation has changed in the States, and I have different factors to consider when dressing for an occasion, but I often find myself reverting to wearing whatever I want, wherever I go, simply because I have it!
